Day#118: Positive schedules to impact your future

Day#118: Positive schedules to impact your future

The concept of staying motivated is easier said than done, its difficult to maintain a steady level of self improvement when you have everyday errands and tasks to fulfill. I will include below two different types of ways that I have spent my evenings in the past and present

Evening 1 (about 2 and a half years ago)

  • 17:30 arrive home
  • 17:30 – 18:30: Make dinner
  • 18:30 – 19:30: watch a show whilst eating dinner
  • 19:45 – 21:30: Gaming

I literally did nothing productive with my evening, ironically I was extremely unhappy with my job and felt stuck in an industry that I felt underappreciated in. This however is a common feeling now in retrospect when I look back after working on lots of self improvement and seeing how many other people suffer with it. For me I felt trapped, I had studied an industry that was not satisfying for me and lacked the innate passion that I saw others having. I did not want to waste all the money and time spent and did not know how to even start with making a career change. It seemed like too much of a big task for me, so I just played games every day to escape the fact that I had no clear goals for my future. Fast forward a few years and this is now my schedule

Evening 2

  • 16:45 arrive home (We worked on staying closer to work and saving on time in traffic)
  • 16:45 – 17:00 Put meals up to boil, bake etc (We now make easier meals so that more time can be spent on what we would rather be doing)
  • 17:00 – 17:30 Admin, prep and research for my blog
  • 17:30 – 18:00 Eat dinner while watching a shorter show or half a show (Don’t let the whole evening go by watching TV)
  • 18:00 – 20:30 Work on my blog, portfolio, CV, do research in the industry, read articles and watch Youtube, I also dedicate about 10 minutes or more on actual motivation and self help strategy videos like the ones I have shared in this post
  • 20:30 – 21:30 Still make time for a game, don’t completely tire yourself out, we often play one or two games after that

Just adding two hours a day of self improvement has bettered my job opportunities, self confidence and financial future so much in such a short time. Don’t be stressed about learning everything about a topic in one day, one month or even one year. For me at this point I look at it as consistent self development, I grew up with the mentality that once you study that was it and you would find a job and be settled and comfortable, and it was difficult at first to realize that you constantly have to work on bettering yourself. I am glad that I am on this journey now though, because I now see others that are not up to scratch in their significant fields because they don’t take the time to constantly learn everything about the industry. I see how they struggle to find jobs and use the same excuse that I did years ago, that the market is bad and companies don’t know what they are looking for. Yes all those reasons can be true, but looking at the situation with an unbiased approach will help you work on better solutions to improve your career, happy researching until next time!

Bye for now
